Day In The Life Of Dave Slick: King Of The Male Webcams

In our exclusive, Dave Slick spills the dirt with The Sword on how the proverbial boy next door became of one the busiest male webcam models on the planet. And one of the most ambitious.
Tall, slim, dark blond hair, and piercing blue eyes, Dave Slick looks every inch the boy we could have all grown up riding the school bus with. He’s smart as whip, very self-aware, and extremely personable. Add in his natural charm, and it’s easy to see the roots of his popularity.
And while he’s definitely capitalizing on the value of all of that for now, he has big plans for later. And he takes them both very seriously.

Dave Slick: Thank you as well. I’m looking forward to this. My screen name is Dave Slick. I am 25, 6’3”, originally from New England but based in Arizona now. I have been camming for about sixteen months now. But beginning with this January, I decided to really go all in.
What led you to be a cam model initially? And what changed in January this year that precipitated to “going all in?”
I was interested in the adult industry. I was writing escort profiles for a company in New Zealand. I saw the income possibilities and decided to give it a try. At first, it was just supplemental income to help pay the bills.
All I had was a cheap laptop with a built-in camera. I had no guidance at all. A bit of trial and error, a lot of research, some better equipment and I started to see results. The more I worked, the more it worked.
What is a typical work week like for you?
I work seven days a week. It’s become a lifestyle. I spend 4-8 hours on cam for a total of 40-50 hours a week. I invest another 20-30 hours promoting my brand – chiefly on social media. I also do a lot of research into learning as much as I can about the industry.
I am on the cover of the current issue of CyberSocket and have 23,000 plus on Chaturbate. I’m really proud of that. It represents a lot, I mean a lot, of work.
You seem very driven. What’s behind that?
Anyone with a webcam is potential competition. I feel if I am not on cam, I’m missing out. If I’m not moving ahead, someone else is. People have needs. Every dollar someone spends with someone else is money I didn’t make.
That all sounds very consuming and doesn’t leave time for much pursuing a personal relationship. And if you had the time, what gender would you be in a relationship with?
Not to sound all preachy, but labels don’t define me. I do identify as bi to answer your question directly.
As for your other question, well, at this phase in my life and career, I do think a romantic relationship would be a hindrance to my long-term goals. I’m extremely single but there are rewards in that currently.
Speaking of ambition, what would you like to see in your future?
There’s no longevity in being in being a performer but there in longevity in the adult industry. I want to have a bigger stake and a bigger role. I’m not sure exactly what that will be. But I am working on it and towards it.
You’re a randy young man but even so, your commodity is an orgasm and that has some limits. Do you ever get off off-camera?
No. Nope. Not a one. When I made the commitment to go all in, that’s part of it. I knew what I signed up for.
You mentioned you don’t like the words “fans or followers.” How do you think of the people who visit your shows and are there ever any who “miss-characterize” the reality of your interactions?
As a performer, you quickly develop a sense of when something isn’t quite right – it’s a level on instability. And that’s when allies become trolls and the worst become stalkers. I put the kibosh down at anything that could go south.
Even if they are not certified nutcases, how common is it some makes a request you find just plain crazy?
It’s happened too many times to count. It’s not so much as crazy requests as things that are illegal, immoral, or just plain distasteful.
Looking at your sizeable following, how many started off just looking to get off but it grew into something more along the lines of a cyber-friendship?
That would apply to many. Contact was initially based on a sexual urge but evolved until the human element is just as pressing. People want a more intimate and personal experience and that’s what webcams can facilitate.
Do your fellow webcam models operate under the same understanding?
I can’t speak for them, of course. But as a general rule, many are just in it to run up the meter as much as possible. Many miss there’s more. And a few exploit it – but they don’t last long.
I would put it like this, there is value to being real and authentic. For those with the means, that is what they are looking for and happy to pay for … to be held as personally valuable, not just meal tickets. That’s why I don’t like the term, “followers.” This transcends the confines of the word “fan.”
Dave, thank you so much for your time and insight. Best of luck at the xBiz Web Cam Awards tomorrow night. We’ll be rooting for you.
