The Latest Shame Game From Michael Weinstein And The AHF
The zealotry of AHF’s Michael Weinstein has spread from gay men and porn sets to all people everywhere with their latest self-serving campaign targeting not just Grindr, but Tinder as well.
Their new billboards visually link use of the apps to gonorrhea and chlamydia. Their rhetoric is even worse:

Dating apps are a different route to get to what we have been doing for years. You are fighting the wrong battle here, Weinstein, and even then you are fighting it the wrong way by demanding we all toe the line as your foot soldiers.
Actions show what you are committed to. There is no better decision maker than the smart choices that come from self-empowerment. Yet you are putting considerable effort, expense, and energy into making us feel bad for being sexual creatures.
Do hook-up apps make it easy to seal the sexual deal. Sure they do. But millennials didn’t invent hooking up. Long before phone apps would have been the work of science fiction, people found a way to connect and have sex that did not begin in bath houses or end with a diagnosis.

Does this surprise me coming from a group that is trying to legislate that any California resident can lawfully make a citizen’s arrest if they spot barebacking in a porn film?
Am I shocked this would be the latest move from an organization that is trying to subpoena porn performers’ medical records?
Was I left chagrined their decidedly non-profit status has come under fire along with a laundry list of infractions ethically, medically and morally wrong?
No. I am used to it by now. But the disappointment doesn’t ebb and is astutely captured by the Free Speech Coalition (FSC) president:

Michael Weinstein first called “PrEP” a party drug. Now it’s hook up apps cause STD’s.
Michael Weinstein speaks to each one of us as if we are brainless sluts.
His message is not one of hope and education — but fear and shame.

Whats so wrong with being against the greatest massacre of gay people? If you are against HIV, you must be against barebacking and promiscuity, and must be in favor of testing and treating. It’s simple as that.

Behavior of millions of humans is not going to be effected by one dictate from a person or group. Of course testing is important for everyone. Treatment is paramount for those infected. Empowering people to make effective, educated decisions is better accomplished through accurate information rather than fear. That is the key to prevention which is the goal here.
