Models are paid $500 – $1000 per shoot, and only the very best looking models are offered that much money. Amateur shoots only pay $100-200. Even at the top rate, you’d need to shoot at least 50 movies a year to actually make a decent living. Unfortunately, by the 20th movie, the public will be tired of your sorry ass, no matter how cute it is. Your rate will go down to zero and you’ll have to get a real job.

There is a misconception that the gay porn industry is just like the old Hollywood studio system of the 30’s and 40’s with contract players. The real world of gay porn is more similar to migrant farm workers getting paid by piece work. The latest trend is toward outsourcing jobs oversees. Corporate jobs like programming, data entry and telemarketing are being outsourced to India, and gay porn jobs are being outsourced to Eastern Europe and Brazil.

My advice it to go ahead and do a few movies, but go into it with the attitude of it being just for fun. When you’re old and grey you’ll be able to show your grandkids that gramps was quite a hottie in his day.

I wish that database existed, it would make my job a lot easier! I have seen a few attempts at building such a site, but it probably got too big to manage and it went away or hasn’t been updated in years.

You may be living under the same misconception I spoke about above that gay porn is like the old Hollywood studio system. Thank god consumers believe the all hype, otherwise gay porn Hollywood would not be the (wet) Dream Factory that it is.

Just wondering, with all your porn expertise, if you have any info on
whatever happened to two 1980s porn stars. The first is Todd Baron, who
appeared in one of Falcon’s first videos, titled “Style”. It was his only
film as far as I know. Co-starred with Ron Pearson, Leo Ford and Tim
Kramer. Al Parker directed. Todd is on the boxcover. I remember thinking
he was just the hottest sexiest thing I’d ever seen when I was a teenager.
Got off on him over and over again.

The second “whatever happened to” is Shawn Michaels, who appeared in “Getting It”, a valley boys tale about a party in L.A.’s San Fernando Valley
in the mid-80s. A Bijou/Jocks video directed by Philip St. John, with Jim
Bentley, Rick Donovan, Jon King and Matt Ramsey, among others. I think the
film was remade as “Getting It At The Rave”, though Shawn Michaels was not
in the remake.
