Cody Cummings Claims All His Scenes Were Faked On “Date My Porn Star”
“Date My Pornstar” is a “documentary” that aired on Channel 4 last month where three “British porn obsessives” get flown to Los Angeles, watch porn get made, and meet their favorite porn stars. Two of show’s subjects (Jonathan and Kevin) are straight but and Danny is (who did a handful of gay porn scenes under the name Justin Dean) is gay. His dream is to meet his gay porn idol … Cody Cummings.
I put “documentary” in quotes because the show feels more like Reality TV or exposé than an actual legitimate documentary. The producers, with the zeal of a British tabloid, are clearly trying to expose the scary underbelly of porn; as each of the subjects meets their favorite porn star, there is a shocking “reveal”. One of the female porn stars they interview recounts horror stories from her time in the industry, to the point where one of the straight guys (Jonathan) is “almost brought to tears.”
In the vein of being “shocking”, first they make all three guys watch a gay porn be made (one of the straight guys has to leave):
Then, when Danny finally gets to meet “his idol” Cody Cummings, Cody “drops a bomb” on him …
He tells Danny that all his movies are really “softcore”, and “fake”:
Later, when Danny gets to go on his “date” with Cody, Cody reveals another “bombshell” — that his daughter knows about his porn career and isn’t talking to him:

Overall — do you think Cody is being honest that all his scenes on CodyCummings.com were really faked and are actually softcore, or is some kind of creative editing going on here? Do you think this show is portraying the gay and straight porn industry fairly or are they amping up the shock factor for ratings and scandal? I’m left scratching my head …

Both the show and Cody are sleaze. Cody has always faked everything. If only Cody was GAY for pay. He’s not even that because he doesn’t really do gay sex. His appeal is the most disturbing thing about the gay porn industry and fanbase. The show picked the perfect person to show the sleazy side of the industry.

Cody’s “revelations” could be a “strategic” move. there were posts on the net attributed to Cody when he first left NDS (and before this production) in which custody battles were mentioned.

The guy spent his life watching porn and when he saw a gay sex scene he had to leave…Did he never know about gay,lesbian, etc,etc,etc sex? The same for the gay guy that made porn and became shocked/sadened after visiting a porn set. The best of this light shockumentary is the reactions of those three brits because all that are old news.

For what it’s worth, Renegade Productions contacted me about this during pre-production, and they were super cagey and deceptive. They billed it as explicitly NOT an expose, just a porn-friendly look where guys get to meet their favorite porn stars. They even made the porn stars tweet about it, to see who got the most attention. I had one friend, a woman, who was in the running but didn’t make it into the finals. Thank god.
The entire show, if you watch it, is a sham worth of Chris Hansen. Particularly the straight segments, where they get the guys worked up and then give them the porn equivalent of a Hell House tour. You know, lots of loose facts and porn star synecdoche, where one person’s experience is supposed to be emblematic of the whole. The show itself was all dark and stormy voiceover. I don’t have a problem with people who don’t understand porn, or have a differing opinion about the way porn should me made, but I do disagree when you’re deceptive — when you explicitly lie about what you’re doing.
People may have honest disagreements about porn, but it’s a legal business. And while the fact that Cody’s daughter won’t talk to him, is that porn’s fault or the daughters? My father doesn’t talk to me because I’m gay — but that’s his problem, not mine. Most porn stars I met have had problems not from the porn itself, but from a hypocritical outside world that tells them they’re garbage, and tainted. But for some reason, the porn bigots, the ones who won’t marry you or hire you or make fun of you behind your back, get off scott-free.

This Channel 4 “expose” may have been an attempt by Channel 4 to do something like Louis Theroux’ BBC Documentary about straight male porn performers http://youtu.be/09lyfffViV0. As I recall, Theroux’ documentary wasn’t particularly negative about the porn industry. However, it did have this “theme” that male performers are second class citizens in straight porn. Theroux’s production presented this porn director insulting this “kid” who was trying to make it in straight porn. The kid was a former soldier and there was a segment showing him playing with toy action figures. The kid looked like a kid and he apparently hasn’t gone on to get a lot of work in straight porn, presumably because he took too long to cum.
