Help Us Make “Seed Money: The Chuck Holmes Story”
For over two years, Jack, Ben Leon and I have been working on a documentary about the late pornographer-turned-philanthropist Chuck Holmes, who built Falcon Studios and, later, helped found the Human Rights Campaign. To finish it, we need your help.
Chuck was gay porn’s Hugh Hefner: a wildly successful businessman with a penchant for fast cars, faster blonds and free speech battles. But after two years, dozens of interviews and countless hours of shooting, editing, and transcribing, we’ve hit a wall. (So say my credit cards.)
Chuck’s story is an important and untold piece of gay history, but without the funds to do the final interviews (including travel for older Falcon stars), equipment rentals, legal fees, footage rights and editing costs, we can’t finish it. So while I hate to start our porn pledge drive in the middle of your masturbation session, we’re asking for your help.
We know times are tough, but think of it like a blow job — even a little is appreciated. And I’m already on my knees. Not only will Jack and I love you forever, you’ll be helping put together an important (and very exciting) piece of gay history.

Thanks Jett — we’re doing our best to make sure Chuck’s role in constructing gay identity (for better or worse) is part of our collective history. For me, Falcon was the first gay porn I saw, and one of the first image of non-ashamed, non-mincing, non-tragic gay figures, and I’m sure I’m not the only one.

Frank — thanks so much for the donation! I saw it this weekend and have been meaning to write. The truth is, the porn business isn’t as lucrative as it was in Chuck’s day. While Steven, Chi Chi, John Rutherford and Chris Ward have all been supportive of the project with time, and mailing lists and thank you gifts (see in particular The Other Side of Aspen), they’ve also have mentioned that they were, perhaps, too close to the story and that too much of a donation might be a conflict of interest.
My heart breaks too at the credit card debt! But this story will go on! I will learn to be a shameless hustler! In the meantime, please spread the word! It’s fans like you who are going to make this project a reality.
