Another Side of Aspen: Sneak Peak at Falcon Documentary

When Chris Ward announced that he was relaunching the Aspen gay porn series, he asked if we’d consider pulling together a short piece from our upcoming documentary about Falcon founder Chuck Holmes to commemorate it.

“Aspen” was a seminal piece for Falcon — the movie which not only changed the company’s fortunes, but also helped establish the Falcon look. It’s also one of our all-time favorite sex films.

Since Ben Leon, Jack and I are still in production on the feature, we’d love any feedback — and if you like it, feel free to click the button at the top left of the player to get the code to embed this on your site!

(Special thanks to directors like Steven Scarborough and John Rutherford, who not only helped make Falcon what it is, but have also given us their time and encouragement while we work on the project.)

Other Side of Aspen (1978)
Other Side of Aspen II (1986)
Other Side of Aspen III (1996)
Other Side of Aspen IV (1996)
Other Side of Aspen V (2002)
Other Side of Aspen VI (2011)

This is fantastic, bittersweet, sexy, and informative all at once. Great job.

It’s funny that they added moronic dialogue to a scene that began with actual spontaneous sex.

  5. Max says:

The first one was great, the second was good, and well, they should have just stopped there. How many can there be? It’s not the same, and the guys today don’t have that same sexual energy – it’s just hustlers doing it on film, UGH, yawn.

  6. Cam says:

also, this may not be popular among the purists, but when you look at the footage of the new Aspen, it make the earlier films pale a little. Maybe its just the transfers though because some of those old colors look muddy. you’d think that falcon would want to fix this

for feedback otherwise on the doc part, i was entirely entertained.

I love the look and feel of your pornumentary. It was nice to see OSOA from it’s foundations and evolvement into today’s series with the hottest guys!

Every man should have an Aspen. “Let me tell you about my weekend in Aspen!!!…”

    Great work!

After seeing their documentary short SMUT CAPITAL OF AMERICA, with which I was very impressed, I am doubly so to see this clip. Mike and Ben are major new voices in the documentary field, and I can see a huge future ahead of them. Awesome job, guys.

Interesting clip. However, I really disliked the direction Falcon went in for at least 20 years after the first Aspen video: lots of shaved Jocks and only rarely did they feature anyone with body hair. That may have reflected Chuck Holmes’ taste, but it wasn’t mine. Thank goodness that has changed.

  13. Casey says:

Definitely love the first half of this, though I wish there were more talking heads or voices discussing the actual shooting of the earlier installments, especially II. But I know you guys edited this together to promote the new one. A definite tease for the full-length piece which I cannot wait for!!

  14. Dan Hulse says:

I used to always go to the Falcon section of the video store first, because for my money, it always got me off. Not anymore, I sometimes down load their movies for free from the internet and always delete them right after watching them. A falcon movie movie couldn’t get me off if the actors were to come to my house and have sex with me. Falcon is dead to me and it use to be my best friend.

I purchased my first VHS recorder back in 1985 just to watch “The Other Side of Aspen” I. I must have seen this video over 100 times the first two months. Sadly, most, of not all of the actors have died from AIDS. I belive when this move first came out, little was known of HIV/AIDS. Since we knew very little of HIV during the late seventies and early eighties, there were a lot of poor guy men (and others) who didn’t even know it were geting infected. I miss Al, Cassey, and the early men of pron. I don’t mean to sound like a party spoiler, and I do love good sex, but we do have to face facts and protect one another.

  16. Jay says:

I remember the LaRue “Boot Black” series with about 15 or 20 of the hottest and best porn stars in the business all in the same film. Tom Katt, Jake Andrews, Spike ect…Those were hot. Why don’t we see those big productions today?

    • Mike says:

Not only have the economy changed, so has the economics. When DVD sales were exploding (before piracy, before online, before the recession), it made financial sense to make big budget productions. Today — you see it very rarely: Falcon’s recent Other Side of Aspen VI was an exception. But yes — ah, the good old days …

  17. Ian says:

IMO an Aspen movie isn’t complete without a fisting scene since Al in the first one. You’ve got to be kidding that was totally improv… I mean they just fisted right there and then? Also why did they have to draft Roman Heart in? Such an annoying squealer. I believe there was no watersports in Aspen yet, could be one for the 7th…
