Ryan Idol Implicated in Birmingham Mayor Scandal
The fraud scandal involving Birmingham, Alabama Mayor Larry Langford has grown to entangle gay porn icon Ryan Idol. Langford was arrested Monday on 101 counts of bribery, money laundering, conspiracy and fraud. As details of the charges against him have started to emerge, one fact has caught our attention: Langford apparently wrote checks to Ryan Idol, the Daily Voice is reporting.
It’s too early to jump to any conclusions as to what he was paying him for. Langord may have merely been paying Mr. Idol to give him a personal reading from Terrence McNally’s play The Ritz, of which Idol starred in the Broadway revival of last year. However, it’s particularly ironic, not only because yet another politician possibly paid for the services of an escort with a check, but also because Langford has done some decisively anti-gay things, like refusing to issue a permit for Birmingham’s gay pride parade.

Ryan Idol hardly “starred” in The Ritz. He was bathouse guy #4, and had one line, if any. Still looked hot, inspite of the 80′s hair and mustache.

Ryan Idol did that? (And by “that” I mean Mayor Langford?) For money or not, that’s just gross.
Supposedly it was for “technical” consulting done for computer work done by Ryan Idol. ..having met him once, he isnt even bright enough to change a light bulb much less do computer work.
While you’re being accurate DT – THE RITZ takes place in the 70′s and Ryan was sporting a 70′s style mustache and hair.
I know I saw it on Broadway and met Rosie Perez.

Even if the Mayor is strictly hetero and there’s nothing to this story, he may be like a lot of other heteros. They sleep around, run around on their wives, hit on women at work, but for some reason they don’t equate it with immorality. Just homo activity. You see it all the time.

Well, just some fyi – supposedly Ryan Idol did computer consulting or something along those lines for Langford.
We are always at odds with Mayor Langford here in Birmingham.
The “story” is that Idol was “consulting” for a computer refurbishing charity that was started by Langford, but run by Langford friend John Katapodis (who was arrested by fed agents in Boston related to the same issues as Langfords arrest). Katapodis insists that Idol is a whiz at fixing floppy drives, and that this was Idols opportunity to “learn a new trade”. Idol was in fact in Birmingham and seen at local retaurants with Katapodis. There has not been anything to connect Idol to Langford other than the checks written from the charity. Don’t get me wrong, I am not a defender or supporter of Langford, but Katapodis is the one who “hired” Idol. The irony is that Langford is virulent about his anti-gay stance, yet Katapodis has been one of his closest allies for years. Anyone who has met Katapodis knows that he is gay. It is all very peculiar…
