Gay Porn Reviews: Movies Time Forgot, Vol. 1

I got humble my start in the gay porn industry by writing DVD reviews for a site that paid $5 for each 3000 word review, but I was glad to have the work. Mike and I barely ever post formal reviews on here anymore so I was glad when longtime GayPornBlog reader Rob J. offered to write up some reviews of classic movies, all of which have definitely withstood the test of time, and all of which are available to watch on NakedSword.

For our first installment, we have Powertool, Weekend Lockup, and The Young And The Hung. Check them out after the jump.

It’s no coincidence that the first “classic” porn flick to be reviewed has Jeff Stryker on the cover. After all, he’s the biggest star in the history of porn, a cultural icon and, simply, a guy with the body of a god and the dick of a horse <*drools*> … What were we talking about again? Ahh, Powertool: Well, Jeff, being eye-candy that he was in his prime, wouldn’t get where he is today without many brilliant movies under his belt. Powertool is his darkest (and his raunchiest) one, with John Davenport, Brian Estevez and other “young-n-well-hung” studs doing the dirty and screaming such classic lines as, “Eat my fucking ass, you jailhouse fairy!” And then there’s Jeff, himself: Stripping off, getting it on with a cellmate, raping people with that horse dick of his … What’s not to like?!

Looking at Stryker’s near-perfect body (of work), it’s hard to believe that it wasn’t *all* about him back in the day. For those who liked their men handsome, but who preferred them wild and rough, there also was Al Parker. Ever heard of him? Good, ’cause that dude’s a legend! He’s also the best thing about Falcon’s Weekend Lockup (or any other movie with his name in its credits, really…) Still, this is “Falcon’s bitch,” so the scene where Parker is giving it to two cock-hungry cops isn’t the only one worth watching here! And even if you’re not that into solos (believe me, I wasn’t either but then I saw Mandingo fucking his own carpet (!) and, well … you’ll still have a jolly good time watching Will Seagers and Roy seduce their unsuspecting (yet already hard by the time they stuck their dicks in his mouth. Have I mentioned Al Parker?

The Young And The Hung, 1985, Catalina
1985… What a year! Michael J. Fox took us back to the future; Madonna taught us how to dance (for inspiration), and, as if that wasn’t enough, William Higgins introduced us to The Young And The Hung … His (rather brilliant) movie tells a story of a 20 year-old hunk who travels the country in search of, well, anyone big enough for him. They meet, they fuck, and then it’s “hotel, motel, Holiday Inn” all over again (hopefully nobody minds that Robbie Williams song). Not exactly a revolutionary concept, (although it does involve the fucking a watermelon). Besides, it’s not about the concept, it’s about the boys! By the way, I think I’m in love. His name is Chris Lance; he’s young, drop-dead gorgeous and not afraid of taking a huge one up his magnificent ass! Seeing Christopher in all his ‘good-boy-gone-bad’ glory is one helluva reason to give Mr. Higgins an A. And then there’s Michael Gere … Oh dear!

Ahh… classic porn. I wasn’t a fan of William Higgins at the time, but now it’s great to catch up on all the hotness I missed back then. And though I had rented every Jeff Stryker flick, now I find him mostly annoying… but the bottoms he used are what those scenes are all about. Jeff Converse, where have you gone?

Bonus points for the Robbie Williams reference (now if HE had made some porn in the 80s… where’s HIS sex tape?)

Along with Jack Wrangler, Al Parker was the most natural porn star of his time.
I never felt these two men were “acting.” They looked as if they were enjoying every minute of sex. Steve Cruz today comes close to that.

What I wouldn’t have given for a night with Al Parker! That man was so damn hot, it makes me hard just thinking about him.

Chris Lance was something unique (see ass-munchee above). I believe he was stabbed to death some years ago after a rough life. He was a real blonde bad boy with some stories to tell!

The thing about William Higgins’ flicks that always turns me on, is that (with very little exception) all the guys in his movies (back then, at least) ENJOYED having sex with each other. Even the “straight” guys actually were into their scenes, whether bottoming or topping.

The bodies on the guys weren’t flabby, they were fit. They weren’t bursting with veins and impossible musculature, they were fit.

The guys had a simple enthusiasm in those scenes back then. Today, it seems more like they are trying to prove something, for a buck.

When they retired back then, we mourned, sure, but we didn’t try to hunt them down and expose them.

We didn’t care about “gay-for-pay”. Heck, we didn’t even have that term yet.

The films from the eighties (yeah, there were a lot of bad ones) spawned true stars of gay porn. There was no instant exclusiveness to a particular studio. No one back then was labled a “discovery”. They usually had the word “introducing” before their name in their first venture. If we never saw them again, it was no big deal.

Today’s “discoveries” are expected to sign contracts for more than on film on the spot, do print work and then, maybe, do shows to promote; all for one low price. No residuals, no percentage from sales, nothing more.

Higgins was doing it right back then. He was one of the true pioneers of gay porn.

My only wish would be for him to continue his “Boys of…” series with other cities and town of the USA, the same way he did it before.

Lets not get too carried away.

The sex, particularly the fucking, was not that explicit, not when you compare it with the stuff Kristen Bjorn or Hot House are currently producing.
