Both GayPornBlog and our brother publication, The Sword, have been following the Charlie Sheen rumors since they first appeared and then got louder.

The actor sat down with Matt Lauer on the Today Show for an extended interview that also included his physician, Dr. Robert Huizenga.

In an update following the interview this morning, Sheen’s publicist released this “open letter” from both Sheen and Dr. Huizenga.

We learned that Charlie Sheen has been HIV positive for about 4 years. Sheen said he has already informed his ex-wives and his oldest daughter. We also learned that Charlie Sheen is on the HIV four pills daily cocktail and that “hush money” to try to keep his secret has allegedly cost him $10 million dollars.

The actor, “also insisted it was “impossible” that he knowingly transmitted the virus to others. While he admitted he has had unprotected sex with two people since the diagnosis, both were informed ahead of time and have been under the care of his doctor.” I am sure we are going to hear much more about as well as legitimate or opportunistic lawsuits and debates of his legal culpability are likely to follow.

He said he hopes by going public with the diagnosis, it will help dispel the stigma of HIV.

“I have a responsibility now to better myself and to help a lot of other people and hopefully with what we’re doing today others will come forward and say, thanks Charlie,” he said.

The three-part interview from this morning is below;

Part 2

Part 3

Guys, admittedly a little slap-dash from here down, starting from a “pre-show” tweet from Al Roker at the bottom of this post and working up, I was live blogging while each segment aired. As it was happening live, this is what caught my attention:

“I have paid “millions” in hush money.” “Not after today I’m not.”

“I was doing a lot of drugs. Drinking too much. Making bad decisions.”

“The two people I have had unprotected sex with are now under the care of my Dr.”

“I have the responsibility to better myself and help a lot of people.”

“I am here to admit that I am in fact HIV positive,” the 50-year-old actor said.

“I have to put a stop to this barrage of attacks and sub-truths and very harmful and mercurial stories that are about me that threaten the health of so many others,” he said. “[It] couldn’t be farther from the truth.”

Sheen said he was diagnosed roughly four years ago.

“It’s a hard three letters to absorb. It’s a turning point in one’s life.

From Today.com:

Sheen said he made the announcement to stop a smear campaign and extortion efforts.

“I have to put a stop to this onslaught, this barrage of attacks and of sub-truths and very harmful and mercurial stories that are about me, that threaten the health of so many others that couldn’t be further from the truth,” he said.

Sheen said he was diagnosed roughly four years ago but doesn’t know how he contracted it.”It started with what I thought was a series of crushing headaches,” he said. “I thought I had a brain tumor. I thought it was over.”

He also insisted it was “impossible” that he knowingly transmitted the virus to others. While he admitted he has had unprotected sex with two people since the diagnosis, both were informed ahead of time and have been under the care of his doctor.

Sheen said he’s trusted the diagnosis with people he thought he trusted, but some people have extorted “millions” from him to keep the illness a secret.

“What people forget is that its money taken from my children,” he said about the “shakedowns” he has experienced.

“I trusted them and they were deep in my inner circle, and I thought they could be helpful,” he said. Instead, “my trust turned to their treason.”

But he said appearing on TODAY will help put a stop to those payout.

“That’s my goal. That’s not my only goal. I think I release myself from this prison today,” he said.

He said he hopes by going public with the diagnosis, it will help dispel the stigma of HIV.

“I have a responsibility now to better myself and to help a lot of other people and hopefully with what we’re doing today others will come forward and say, thanks Charlie,” he said.
